Three Development Processes

Three Development Processes

Our leadership could be seen as handling three development
processes. They are:

• the Individual development process,
• the Team development process,
• the Business or organization development process

The Individual development process relates to what happens within each
and every one of us. The process is there all the time and we need to
accept that and try to understand and learn from it. All of us have our own
history, attitudes, wants and behaviors. All of this is a result of what
has happened so far in our life and the way we have integrated our
experiences into our lives. We all have this history when we get
promoted into our role as a leader.

The Team development process relates to how we interact with other
members of a team. We are all different individuals and at the same time
we want to contribute to something together. We are a team and at the
same time we are individuals. In order to make the team work well we
need to understand and respect each other. A team process should
not be counterproductive to our individual wishes. Together we are
stronger as long as no one has to give up on herself or himself. A
strong team can help each and every one to achieve so much more.

The Business or organization development process is about what we
are doing at work and what we want to achieve. This process is based on
our competence and awareness and it is supposed to lead to success of
our initiatives as a team. It is not only about getting a good salary. It is about
doing something good for others, i.e. customers, students, patients and
others, depending of what we do at work. This is something that will
add to the quality of life of people at the same time as our efforts do
not lead to suffering for other people. Creativity and development is
needed independently of what kind of work we do.
