Denmark announces $11m aid for flood relief
Politics:
The Danish government has announced a donation of $9.5 million in humanitarian emergency aid to flood victims in Pakistan. Denmark was among the first countries that showed their immediate support to Pakistan by initially donating $1.5 million for the relief work.

Norway to pay 30 million dollars to save Indonesian forests
Politics:
Norway agreed Thursday to advance 30 million dollars to Indonesia in the first installment of a planned billion-dollar scheme to cut the country's greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation. After two days of talks in Jakarta, Norwegian officials said they were satisfied that Indonesia was making progress towards its promise to impose a two-year moratorium on deforestation starting in January 2011.

Norway pledges to work for reform in Swaziland
Politics:
Norway pledged Wednesday to work for democracy in Africa's last absolute monarchy — tiny Swaziland — while comparing the initiative to its role in the fight against apartheid in neighboring South Africa. Swazi King Mswati III is accused of repressing human rights and harassing and jailing pro-democracy activists.

New organ harvesting legislation comes into force in Finland
Politics:
“Harvesting organs without asking for permission is now allowed in Finland as a result of new legislation coming into force on 1 August unless the deceased person has previously expressed opposition. According to Finnish media report, a study revealed last year that 90 per cent of Finns would allow their organs to be used after their death while only 20 per cent have actually signed the organ donor card.

FinnChurchAid and Finnish Red Cross send help to Pakistan
Politics:
FinnChurchAid (KUA) is sending food, supplies and tents to the areas of Pakistan stricken by floods, while Finland's Red Cross has sent three aid workers, the organizations said in their statements on Monday. In addition, FinnChurchAid is supporting transportable clinics and is also preparing to send aid workers to the flooded regions. Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs gave FinnChurchAid 200,000 Euros for providing aid to Pakistan, and last week the organization diverted 50,000 Euros from its catastrophe fund to help the flood victims.
