Denmark Ranked no. 1 in a New Survey on Salary and Career Satisfaction
Culture:
According to a new survey conducted by Nature, salary isn’t the only parameter to measure happiness on. The survey is Nature’s first ever survey on salary and career satisfaction of scientist worldwide. Denmark was ranked no. 1, scoring best on a satisfaction ranking that included measures such as salary, health care, pension and degree of independence.

Bjork Wins Sweden's Polar Music Prize
Culture:
Bjork has joined Bruce Springsteen, Burt Bacharach and the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the eclectic pantheon of Polar Music Prize winners. The Icelandic singer was presented with the honour and nearly £80,000 ($123,000) in prize money by the King of Sweden on 30/08/2010 Monday.

Finnish beauty queen is Mrs Universe 2010
Culture:
Finnish beauty queen Jennika Hannusaari is the new Mrs Universe. Married women from 22 different countries took part in the competition, which was held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The news was delivered by Iltalehti magazine. 24 years old Hannusaari is married and has a 3-year-old son. She appreciated that the competition did not focus solely on appearance, but gave importance also to other values.

Icelandic designer takes top prize in UN anti-poverty ad contest
Culture:
A graphic designer from Iceland is the winner of a United Nations advertising contest to boost awareness in Europe of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), eight globally agreed anti-poverty targets with a 2015 deadline. Stefán Einarsson, 44, will be bestowed the top award for the UN Ads against Poverty Competition by Queen Sofia of Spain in Madrid on 10 September. More than 2,000 entries from 34 countries were submitted for consideration.

France’s largest bookstore chain acknowledges Sofi Oksanen
Culture:
The novel Purge by Sofi Oksanen has received yet another accolade. This time, Fnac, France’s largest chain of bookstores, chose Oksanen’s book as its novel of the year. The Fnac prize (Le Prix du Roman Fnac)is being handed out for a ninth time, and this was the first occasion that the winner is a book whose original language was not French. Oksanen has previously won the Finlandia and Runeberg prizes for her novel, as well as the literature prize of the Nordic Council. Purge was Finland’s best-selling domestic work of fiction in 2008.
