Icelandic Product Designer Awarded in New York
Science:
Thórunn Árnadóttir, an Icelandic product designer, received an award in the category of Best Product at the recent New York International Gift Fair for a special clock. A company is now preparing production of the clock. She was also awarded at the Oslo Triennale 2010 for an idea of a unique glove which can be used for a transport system called the Hitchhiker, where vacant seats in private vehicles in big cities would be taken better advantage of.

Synthetic corneas restore sight: Swedish study
Science:
A Swedish study has revealed that bio-synthetic corneas can help regenerate and repair damaged eye tissue and improve vision in humans, the Science Translational Medicine reported last week. "With further research, this approach could help restore sight to millions of people who are waiting for a donated human cornea for transplantation," said the scientists.

Obelux introduces the world’s most powerful LED light

The Finnish aviation obstacle light producer Obelux Ltd has developed the most powerful High Intensity (HI) flashing white LED light of all time. The world’s first high intensity LED, delivering outstanding 600 000 candelas, has been designed to replace old Xenon technology on over 150 meter tall buildings and masts.

Space Travel Enthusiasts from Denmark Create the World’s First Space Rocket Entirely from Donations

The world of space travel has taken yet another innovative turn, as a team of volunteers from Denmark have now successfully created the world’s first space rocket to have been funded entirely from donations and sponsorships. The entire project led by Kristian von Bengtson and Peter Madsen envisions sending a man into space and this incredible homemade rocket will be going on its maiden launch in about a week’s time.

High cocoa content gives Swedish hearts the edge
Science:
Swedish women who regularly consume small amounts of dark chocolate have lower risks of heart failure than their US counterparts, due to the higher quality and cocoa content, a new Harvard study suggests.
